A charming Wire Fox Terrier called “Sky” won Best in Show Tuesday night at the 138th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and became the eighth consecutive winner fueled by Purina Pro Plan brand dog food. The 5 ½-year-old female, who has a distinctive ginger coat color, won the Terrier Group and then captured Best in Show.

The No. 1 dog in the country in 2013, Sky gave professional handler Gabriel Rangel of Rialto, Calif., his second Best in Show at the Garden, having also won in 2010 with “Sadie,” a Scottish Terrier. “Sky has a personality like a little perfect dog,” Rangel said. “If you put a lead on her, she puts her tail up. If you have food in your pocket, she is like, ‘What do you want me to do?’ She knows the routine.”

Sky wowed Best in Show judge Betty Regina Leininger of Frisco, Texas, with her show poise, beautiful wire hair and excellent condition. “It was a very difficult decision,” Leininger said. “I had seven magnificent animals, but Sky was really on. This was her night. She had that unmistakable ‘look at me’ attitude.”

GCH AfterAll Painting The Sky is owned by Torie Steele of Malibu, Calif., and Victor Malzoni Jr. of São Paulo, Brazil. Sky is a repeat Best in Show winner at the International Kennel Club of Chicago Dog Show, and in 2012, she won Best in Show at the National Dog Show Presented by Purina and the AKC National Championship.

The Tuesday night live broadcast on USA Network featured judging of the Sporting, Working and Terrier Groups preceding Best in Show. Six of the seven Group winners, including the Reserve Best in Show winner, the Standard Poodle “Ally,” are fed Purina Pro Plan dog food. This is the third year that Pro Plan has been the official pet food sponsor of the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
