Purina® Pro Plan®-Fed Dogs Go For 10 of 10 at 2016 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show
Just weeks away from the prestigious 140th annual Westminster Kennel Club (WKC) Dog Show on Feb. 15 and 16 in New York City, Purina® Pro Plan® fans can’t wait to learn whether a 10th consecutive Purina® Pro Plan®-fed dog captures Best in Show.
For almost a decade, Purina® Pro Plan®-powered show dogs have taken Madison Square Garden by storm, capturing the past nine Bests in Show and winning the majority of the Groups. Additionally, Purina® Pro Plan® dog food is the brand fed to 96 of the top 100 all-breed show dogs in the country in 2015.*
Breed judging and benching will begin at 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 15 and Tuesday, Feb. 16 at Piers 92/94. The Groups will then take the ring at 8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Garden. The Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting and Herding Groups will be judged Monday and broadcast live from 8 to 11 p.m. EST on CNBC, while the Sporting, Working and Terrier Groups, culminating with Best in Show, will be judged Tuesday and televised live from 8 to 11 p.m. EST on USA Network. Almost 3,000 dogs, including those representing the seven newly recognized AKC breeds, will compete for top honors.
The third annual Masters Agility Championship will precede the iconic dog show beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 at Pier 94. More than 300 dogs alongside their handlers will race against the clock in an obstacle course designed to challenge their athletic ability, concentration and teamwork. The Championship Finals, consisting of 10 dogs from each of the five height classes, will be broadcast from 8 to 10 p.m. EST on FOX Sports 1.
Meanwhile, the seventh annual AKC Meet the Breeds will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 at Piers 92/94. Canine lovers will have the opportunity to interact with more than 100 dog breeds. Experts, including breeders, owners, handlers, trainers, groomers, and enthusiasts, will be on hand to answer breed questions and teach responsible pet ownership to the public.
Finally, the inaugural Masters Obedience Championship will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15 at Pier 94. This invitation-only competition will feature 35 of the top Obedience Trial Champions in the country demonstrating solid canine companion skills. Judged on the accuracy and precision in which they execute a series of specific exercises, the teams must also show the handler’s natural movement and the dog’s willingness to please.
