2016 Purina Outstanding Amateur Retriever Award
Not even the early stage of lameness could keep a black Labrador Retriever named “Ivy” sidelined from the 2016 field trial season, which came to a magnificent close by winning the 2016 Purina Outstanding Amateur Field Trial Retriever Award. In 2015, NAFC-FC Dottie Ray’s Ivy League was diagnosed with degenerative arthritis in both wrists, but the 9-year-old female bounced back sound and strong to garner 31 points from five Amateur stake wins in the yearlong competition. “Ivy is a mentally sharp dog with a huge heart and endless drive. The tougher the trial, the greater her focus,” says handler Andy Kahn of Roseburg, Oregon, who owns Ivy with his wife, Shirley. Bred by Rodger and Donna Fangsrud of Missoula, Montana, Ivy also was a finalist at the National Retriever Championship (NRC) in 2016 and at the National Amateur Retriever Championship (NARC) in 2013 and 2014, winning the 2013 NARC in Mondovi, Wisconsin. She is fed Purina Pro Plan SPORTPerformance 30/20 Formula.
