BRIGHT MIND-Fed Cardigan Welsh Corgi Named ‘Libby’ Wins National Specialty Best of Breed
Showing her heart out for owner-handler Sherri Hurst of Houston at the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America (CWCCA) National Specialty May 14, “Libby,” an 8-year-old brindle bitch, moved effortlessly. With beautiful side gait, powerful reach and drive, and a perfectly level topline, Libby looked as though she could go on endlessly.
Winning her second CWCCA National Specialty Best of Breed, having won the first in 2011 at 3 years of age, GCH Aubrey’s Tail of Mystery CGC brought Hurst to tears. This time, Libby won from the Veterans class.
“Never for one second did Libby quit showing,” says Hurst. “Libby is the best Cardigan I have ever shown. Her structure and breed type are so correct that people often tell me they try to etch her image into their mind to remind them what they should aim to achieve in their breeding programs.”
The top-winning Cardigan of all time, Libby has earned 30 Bests in Show and is nearly a two-time Platinum Grand Champion. Although it had been a year since the Cardigan bitch had been shown due to taking time out to whelp a litter, she was in top condition and excited to be at this year’s CWCCA National with Hurst.
On Wednesday, Libby took Best of Veterans Sweepstakes. Then, on Friday, she won the 7- to 9-Year-Old Veteran Bitch class out of 10 dogs. “I knew we had to win the Veterans class to go on,” Hurst says. “I could have entered her in Best of Breed, but I wanted others to see how good senior Cardigans can look when you keep them active.”
“Cardigans get more beautiful over time,” she says. “This is why our Veterans win our National Specialty time and time again.”
Hurst feeds Libby PurinaⓇ Pro PlanⓇ BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ Chicken & Rice Formula, which is made with enhanced botanical oils shown to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs age 7 and older, with results visible within 30 days. BRIGHT MIND provides an additional energy source for the brain, naturally nourishing the minds of dogs age 7 and older to help them think more like they did when they were young.
“Libby had a noticeable recharged brightness and alertness when I started feeding her BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+,” says Hurst. “Not a day goes by that I don’t tell someone about BRIGHT MIND. Truly, nothing makes me happier than when I can do something for my senior dogs.”
Libby gave Hurst her fourth CWCCA National Best of Breed win. A professional handler for 28 years, Hurst adores the breed and has put 50 of 100 career Bests in Show on Cardigans. Besides Libby, her previous CWCCA Best of Breed winners are:
- GCH Heart Of Gold Power Play (“Powell”), who won at age 10 in 2013
- GCH Kingsbury’s I’m Harry P (“Harry Potter”), who won at age 10 in 2010
