Lisa Snyder, Bawlin’ Blues Blueticks
It was love at first sight for Lisa Snyder of Richlands, N.C., who fell for the distinctive look and sound of Bluetick Coonhounds. Now breeding under the Bawlin’ Blues prefix, Snyder says she and her husband, Zealy Lewis Jr., chose the name since Blueticks are known for their bawl mouth. “Blues also is a play on both the breed and the music, and with the exception of one, all our hounds are named after blues songs,” she says.
Although Snyder began participating in United Kennel Club (UKC) bench shows, she and her Blueticks are transitioning to American Kennel Club (AKC) conformation shows. She considers her greatest accomplishment CH Bawlin’ Blues Rock Me Baby, who became her first AKC Champion. “Rock” won multiple Bests of Breed, including the 2013 AKC National Championship Owner-Handled Series. He also took Select Dog at the 2014 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Bawlin’ Blues now boasts three UKC Grand Champions, three AKC Champions and several that are close to finishing their championships. When not competing in the show ring, Snyder and her multi-talented hounds enjoy pleasure hunting, but she soon hopes to start competition hunting as well.
Snyder feeds Purina® Pro Plan® SPORT Performance 30/20 Formula to her hounds because she says it gives them shiny coats and keeps them healthy. On being a Pro Club member and reaping its benefits, Snyder says, “I enjoy reading Today’s Breeder magazine because there’s always something to learn. Plus, the rewards for redeeming weight circles aren’t bad either!”
